Higashi Village
~A paradise of Yanbaru's nature and flowers, encounter Japan's earliest blooming azaleas~
Located on the east coast of northern Okinawa Island, this "village of flowers" is blessed with rich nature and a warm climate. It features landscapes unique to Yanbaru, such as the Higashison Min no Mori Tsutsuji Eco Park known for Japan's earliest blooming azaleas, the mangrove forest of Gesashi Bay, and pineapple fields. You can also discover local charms like Matayoshi Coffee Farm.

A riverside park by Gesashi River where you can connect with Yanbaru's nature.
This nature-rich park spreads at the mouth of the Gesashi River and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. In spring, tens of thousands of azaleas, touted as the earliest blooming in Japan, color the park, and the "Azalea Festival" bustles with many people. Mangrove exploration by canoe and accommodation in bungalows or at the campsite are also available, allowing for an active day surrounded by river, forest, and sea.

Matayoshi Coffee Farm

A fragrant cup of Okinawan coffee, grown in the Yanbaru forest.
This coffee farm consistently handles everything from cultivation to roasting and serving of Okinawan-grown coffee beans in the rich nature of Yanbaru. On the farm, visitors can enjoy a coffee tree owner system, coffee bean harvesting experience (seasonal), and roasting experience. At the attached cafe, you can savor freshly home-roasted coffee and light meals.

Mangrove Forest of Gesashi Bay

Mysterious buttress roots tell the vitality of the subtropical forest.
This is one of the largest mangrove forests on Okinawa Island, spreading at the mouth of the Gesashi River in Higashi Village. It is also a nationally designated natural monument. A boardwalk is maintained, allowing visitors to closely observe the unique ecosystem of mangroves and the creatures that inhabit it, such as crabs and wild birds. When strolling through the mangrove forest, the giant Sakishima Suounoki trees with their distinctive buttress roots are a must-see point.
